There's no place like home

Finally home! Our flight was supposed to be pretty simple - Knox-DC-Brussels-Banjul - but then we got to Brussels airport and were kindly informed by our flight attendants that the Brussels airline thought it would be fun to take a little detour through Sierra Leone and Guinea Conakry. So by the time we got home-home, it was around 10pm. Nothing's changed here really (except for my parents' door which fell out of its frame because of termites and stuff and simultaenously scared the living crap out of me and made a mess that we've had to clean up all morning in between saying hello to everyone again who looks oh so the same but oh so different). As soon as we turned into our driveway, I could see a bunch of our kids studying (diligently) under the dim solar light of the jemberengo in front of our house. When we got out of the car, we were bombarded by the entire horde, who had abandoned their books and followed us into our house. I was holding two trays of eggs and I definitely crushed some against my chest because the kids were all giving us hugs and shaking both my hands. In bed in my own bed for the first time in two years and it feels glorious. Sweaty but happy. Had my mama's wonderful cooking and two whole juicy sticky sweet mangoes before passing out.
